Not long ago the Pier 21 museum did an extensive renovation that included new interactive exhibits. They invited me to come for visit with the little ones to see just how kid-friendly it is now and we jumped at the chance.
You know when you're heading to the airport and you see that building with the airplane in the yard? I always figured it was a repair place or something. Turns out it's an amazing museum filled - and I mean FILLED - with more than 25 full size aircraft and lots of other artefacts. Full size aircraft like airplanes and helicopters that kids can touch, look at, and, sometimes, get right in!
We had our first visit last year at their Family Fun Day and it made my list of Five Last Minute Outings for Halifax Families earlier this year as part of a combined visit to the airport to watch planes take off and land (always a popular adventure around here!). Check the links at the bottom of the post for dates, but it's usually held in June of each year. They offer free admission, and even have a free BBQ, games and prizes! A must for any little aviation fan in your house!
The museum is owned and operated by volunteers, and this day is put on by those same volunteers. So pack up the kids and your day trip adventure kit and head on out to check it out, you won't be sorry!
And, if you like what you see, why not drop a donation in their donation box to thank them for such a fun family activity?
Here are 5 year-round fantastic Halifax (Hali-tastic...is that a thing? If not it should be!) outings to keep in your pocket for an instant adventures - no advance planning required!
