Raising a family is one of the most important jobs you will ever do, but it's also one of the hardest! Luckily in Halifax we are home to an incredible local organization called Family SOS. They are there to help support all local families during their journeys AND they also run some pretty cool activities for kids and youth - and it's all free! Today we shine a spotlight on this organization and some of the amazing programs they offer to help local families.
This month's book club is weather related which was a lot of fun for us! Our favourite weather forecaster, Frankie MacDonald, and local author Sarah Sawler worked on this book together. Read on for how to do this simple and fun experiment with your kids AND your chance to win a copy of the book!
Have you ever been out on a walk in the woods and stumbled upon a tiny fairy house or door? We have once or twice and it was such a fun surprise! Some members of a Spryfield forest school took it one step further and created the very first dedicated fairy door trail in the city. Imagine the magic and fairy dust swirling around this little metropolis!
This month's book club book is called Mi'kmaw Waisisk/Mi'kmaw Animals by Alan Syliboy (published by Nimbus Publishing) and it is a board book for babies and toddlers. It has beautifully drawn images that will delight readers of all ages, along with the English and Mi'kmaw word for each animal, as well as the proper pronunciation of the Mi'kmaw word.
This book inspired our book club activity this month to teach babies, toddlers, and preschoolers about animal habitats, and learn a bit of a second language while they're at it!
